Short: Something More
This is my first real foray into trying to write something in the Harry Potter universe, but because shy_of_reality was awesome enough to write a Draco/Hermione story for me for my birthday, it only seemed fair I try to give her something from the fandom of her choice for her birthday even though I've basically been terrified of attempting it.

This is pretty short and told in drabble form. There's potential to write more at a later time, but no promises! I hope you enjoy it, Becca!

Title Something More
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Rose/Scorpius
Rating: G
Word Count: 400

I didn’t believe in love at first sight. It seemed so ridiculous and Malfoy’s were anything but. We were proper, Pureblooded wizards. Love at first sight seemed so commonplace.

Still, the moment I saw her, I thought she was the prettiest girl in the whole of the world.

It didn’t matter that I was only eleven years old. I wanted to know her and be with her for always.

I barely remembered to tell Mum and Father goodbye before I hurried to board the train. I didn’t bother with how I would introduce myself. I only knew I had to.

I once heard Father say you could spot a Weasley in any crowd.

They would be redheaded, freckled and wearing hand-me-down clothes.

I should’ve guessed she was a Weasley on sight, for she had the red hair and the freckles to go with. Her clothes, however, showed no sign of being secondhand.

No, I didn’t know she was a Weasley until I spotted my girl with a blonde girl - clearly a seventh year – who pulled my redhead into a hug while exclaiming, “Rose Weasley! I’m so happy to see you, Cousin!”

I knew then I was in serious trouble.

I was a named a Slytherin, but only after much debate – shockingly between Slytherin and Gryffindor. I had no preference, though I knew Father hoped for Slytherin.

My lovely Rose was not sorted immediately either. Selfishly, I hoped she would join me in Slytherin, though I knew the odds were against me. Her parents had been in Gryffindor as mine had been in Slytherin. Rose, too, followed family tradition.

This would complicate things, but perhaps it would be okay. With the Dark Lord gone forever (“You’re Grandmother helped Harry Potter thwart and then eventually defeat him!”), maybe it wouldn’t matter.

I wondered how I would ever speak to her, but she chose for me.

The first day of Defense Against the Dark Arts she sat beside me, smiled friendly and introduced herself.

“I’m Scorpius Malfoy,” I said proudly, but still expecting a laugh. I was used to it, of course. Everyone laughed at my name. Even my fellow housemates when they thought I couldn’t hear.

But she didn’t. Instead, she smiled and said, “It’s nice to meet you.”

No truer words were ever spoken. I knew then that we would be friends, and maybe, someday, we could be something more.
